With this in mind, we’ve put together some pointers to help you when you’re thinking about landscaping your outdoor space.
Analyse your site
The first thing you need to do is to create a plan, so you have a clear idea of your needs set out on paper. The initial part of this plan is all about analysing your outdoor space. Take note of the general shape and size of your yard and any hilly areas etc. Be sure to understand the drainage patterns and to check your soil for moist areas where you can put plants that require extra water. It’s also a good idea to write out a list of everything you have in your garden and to pinpoint what you wish to keep and anything that needs to be removed or changed.
Figure out your soil type so you can choose plants to suit. Take notice of sunny and shaded areas. Note down where the sun tends to hit most and at what times. It’s a good idea to check for windy areas too so you can plant some trees to act as a natural barrier if needed.
